Mazatlan .... where all of your dreams can come true!
General information about Mazatlan
Mazatlán's name comes from a Náhuatl Indian word "Mazatl" which means "Place of Deer." The first towns in the area were first settled in this area almost 400 years ago. Since then Mazatlan has become the largest port in Mexico, one of the best billfish sport fishing areas in the world, and a great family vacation destination! Not just a tourist destination Mazatlan has a growing number of ex patriots living here and calling the "Pacific Pearl" their home away from home. Because it was a city long before it became a beach resort, Mazatlan has more diversity than some of its neighbors on what the cruise industry calls the Mexican Riviera. Places like Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos, which like Mazatlan are ports of call on the cruise ship circuit, were tailor-made as resort developments. Mazatlan on the other hand is a city that discovered it had a beach out front and became a resort almost as an afterthought. The first couple of hotels, in the area of Old Mazatlan called Olas Altas, served primarily as lodging for sports fishermen from the U.S. and Canada.
Nicknamed the "Pearl of the Pacific," Mazatlán is situated on the Pacific Coast of Mexico also known as the "Golden Coast", almost directly across from the tip of the Baja peninsula and at the foot of the Sierra Madre Mountains. This accessible Mexican Riviera resort destination has its own airport, as well as ferry service to La Paz and is also close to the ever expanding highway system in Mexico.
Today Mazatlan is most famous for its miles and miles of beautiful beaches. Unlike other destinations here you can find beaches with few to no people. Isla de la Piedra—(Stone Island) for example has miles and miles of deserted beaches with tropical palm trees as far as you can see. Closer to the resorts there is more activity for those that seek it and more beach and water activities than the average vacationer can handle including: Snorkeling, wind and kite surfing, jet-ski's, para-sailing, horseback riding, boogie boarding, surfing, and more. Various points along Mazatlan's miles of pristine beaches attract surfers of all levels and when the "surfs Up" the waves provide enjoyment for the surfers and the observers!
All the traditional amusements and diversions are here including some of the finest sport fishing on the Pacific coast, whether your desire is deep-water big game or the challenge of shallow-water predators. Many locals and tourists enjoy the unique ocean shore fishing where you can start with a shrimp and work your way up to a good sized Red Snapper! Mazatlan offers everything from full-service all-inclusive resort life to intimate villas, hotels and private residences and rentals. In every respect a top-notch vacation getaway. Mazatlan is also one of the hottest active retirement destinations in Mexico. For golfers, Mazatlan boasts courses designed by Lee Trevino, Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and David Fleming, some of the world's foremost course designers. These courses will challenge and impress with fantastic layouts and stunning ocean views.
Mazatlan is home to one of the largest breweries in Mexico, The Pacifico Brewery, will give you plenty of reasons to smile with brewery tours and chances to sample brews that never make it north of the border. For a more traditional educational experience don't miss the Art Museum located in Old Mazatlan, the Archaeology museum and the Aquarium, with hundreds of species of marine life and stunning sea lion shows!
Mazatlan, so loved for it's old world charm, has a well developed business climate and is currently adding a large-scale convention center, Fashion mall and various other major projects that are bringing the city of Mazatlan to the forefront of the cosmopolitan world.
The ultimate combination of culture and beauty, Mazatlan has everything to satisfy your individual needs. Let us here at Mazatlan Oceanfront Realty help you create your slice of paradise amongst the palm trees in the sand.
